Ok, today is blog day. On Blog Day everyone is supposed to post 5 new blogs. (note to self: work on this for next year.)

Since the creation of Bull Run Library Wiki I have been very cautious about "advertising" it to my community. The reason for this is that I also work at Bull Run Library. Although there is nothing posted on the site that isn't available to the public, I have concerns.

I have "outed" the wiki now by mentioning it to a member of the "web interface focus group".

Websites As Graphs

This is a visualization of Bull Run Library Wiki Website that was created through a 3rd party website .

Have some fun at work and create a Flickr account. I did this through the social committee at my library and most everyone likes the idea. A couple of suggestions would be 1) ask everyone before you take their pictures if it is alright and if you can post it on a web photo sharing site 2) keep the site private and 3) make the information about logging onto the site available.

Flickr

Photo sharing is easier and more convenient than imagined with an online account. Entries can be public or private.

Retirement

I am looking for a place to "land" for the retirment years. Northern Virginia is getting old as the traffic spirals out of control. Consequently I have been tuned in to finding places with good library services. The only way to easily check out libraries at a glance is through their web service. My county/library websites do not inspire me.

I am impressed with Phoenix, Ann Arbor, and Mecklenburg/Charlotte however I am also pleased to see the Wyoming Authors site. This is one state that hasn't even been on my radar for a potential retirement spot, but is now!

Web 2.0 Browser

I just downloaded and began working with Flock web browser. A couple of the features I was curios to try out were the ease of photo uploading on Flickr and Photobucket and the ease of blog posting. The one change I would like so far is that only one account can be used. Currently I have three Flickr accounts.

My first experience with blogging was through livejournal. I set up an account when one of my kids started college. She was an avid blogger and I found it interesting to read her posts and the comments.

I am also the creator of www.bullrunlibrary.pbwiki.com. This wiki website is intended to be a patron driven wiki that supports my local library. One of the interesting features on the site is a google calendar that lists the entire summer reading program. Google calendars are very easy to add to a website and even easier to update.

At this point in time I actually maintain 10 wiki websites. One site is strictly personal. I post information I need when I might be at another computer (at work or on a trip). This is very handy. Five sites are related to archery clubs and 4-H clubs. Two sites are related to genealogy and one site is intended for recipe collection.

I also follow several blogs related to libraries. There is a wealth of information on these blogs. Additionally, I utilize the services of netlibrary for audio books and hopefully, soon, ebooks.
